Arsenal are set to travel to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United on Monday night. This fixture is arguably one of the best Premier League has to offer. However, it holds added significance to both sides this time.

Both sides have made less than impressive starts to the league season, and both have a point to prove in the all-important league clash.

The Red Devils suffered their second defeat of the season last week as they succumbed to a 2-0 defeat at West Ham United. United have eight points in their account, and they are already three points behind their opponents.

Arsenal haven’t looked much better on the pitch either, but they did produce a monumental come-back to claim a 3-2 home win over Aston Villa last weekend. They do hold a slight advantage over their opponents, but their away form doesn’t inspire much confidence.

Regardless, both sides have received some major boost on the injury front ahead of their clash.

Manchester United injury news

United suffered a massive blow when they lost Marcus Rashford to a groin injury against the Hammers. As things stand, United have no senior strikers available for selection. However, Anthony Martial, who has missed the last three league fixtures, should be back for the game against the Gunners.

Following Rashford’s injury, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer told reporters: “It’s just one of these moments.

“We’ve had historically loads of centre-backs over the last few years struggling with injuries, we’ve gone down here with Michael Carrick playing centre-back – I don’t know if he played here – and Darren Fletcher.

“And at the moment it’s strikers. That’s just how it’s gone. Hopefully, Mason and Anthony will be back for definitely Arsenal, hopefully, one of them against Rochdale.”

Furthermore, midfielder Paul Pogba is also expected to return for the midweek EFL Cup clash with Rochdale. “Hopefully he (Pogba) will be available for Rochdale midweek,” Solskjaer added.

Hence, Luke Shaw, Eric Bailly and Marcus Rashford are expected to be the only United players to miss the Arsenal game due to injuries.

Arsenal injury news

Arsenal are having a relatively easier time with injuries. The Gunners have received a massive boost as Rob Holding, Hector Bellerin and Kieran Tierney made their respective comebacks in the 5-0 EFL Cup win over Nottingham Forest on Tuesday. Unai Emery’s side has struggled with the defence in the opening weeks of the season, and these three players would definitely improve the situation. Both Holding and Bellerin were integral parts of Emery’s side before their injuries last season. While Tierney was one of the major signings during the summer.

Both Holding and Tierney started the game while Bellerin was a second-half substitute. What was even more encouraging for the Gunners was the fact that all three players made vital contributions in the win. Holding scored one of the goals for the hosts and Bellerin managed to provide an assist in his short cameo.

Following the return of these players, Alexandre Lacazette remains the only senior Arsenal player who is currently nursing an injury.
