Arsenal won their second consecutive game of the new season as they registered a 2-1 home win over Burnley.

It was an interesting encounter with both sides sticking to their respective footballing philosophies. The hosts did deserve three points from the game, but it wasn’t easy for them as they afforded their opponents 18 shots.

Regardless, it was an encouraging outing for Arsenal and their fans, and one name, in particular, stood out – Dani Ceballos.

The Spaniard, who has arrived on a loan from Real Madrid, was making his full debut for the Gunners, and he didn’t put a foot wrong in the entire game. In fact, the 23-year-old was so sublime with the ball that he sent the entire Arsenal fan-base into a frenzy.

The league season has only just started, and Arsenal fans are already worried about Ceballos returning to Real Madrid following his loan spell.

These tweets perfectly captured the mood of the Arsenal fanbase this weekend.

What made Ceballos’ performance so good?

The Spaniard not only provided assists for both Arsenal goals in the game but also, he led both sides for passes and touches on the ball. Furthermore, he completed 100% of his take-ons and managed an impressive 90% passing success rate.

As the Gunners attempted to play the ball out from the back, Ceballos proved vital in keeping possession under Burnley’s press. Hence, it was not a surprise when he was given the Man of the Match trophy ahead of the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

It was not only Ceballos’ performance on the pitch which captured Gooners’ imagination. It was quite clear that the midfielder is enjoying himself on the pitch, and a lot of fans lapped up his celebration to the winning goal.

The 23-year-old lasted 83 minutes on the pitch before he was substituted by Lucas Torreira. However, he had already become a fan-favourite before he left the sun-soaked Emirates pitch to the chants of “O Dani Ceballos” on Saturday.

Following the game, Ceballos acknowledged the support from fans and dedicated his MOTM to them. He went on to describe his Arsenal debut as one of the most special days in his life.

He said: “When you have a great game and can help the team to get the victory, you feel satisfaction to know that you’re going home calmly and with the work done.

“The truth is that for me it has been one of the most special days of my life.

“I think that by starting at home with a win, and with this passion shown at the end of the match, I think it will be hard for me to forget this day.”

What lies ahead in store?

If Arsenal fans can have their way, they would sign Ceballos on a permanent deal today itself. However, it would be easier said than done. When Ceballos initially joined Arsenal, it was reported that he had insisted on not putting a permanent transfer clause in the agreement as he still harbors the dream to play for Real Madrid.

The season has only just started and there is a long time to go before a decision needs to be taken. However, Arsenal fans would hope that Ceballos falls in love with their club before that time comes. Otherwise, it could be a huge heartbreak for them next summer.
